Cherry 'Prunus cerasus Morello' - A superb large, dark red acid cherry that is ideal for cooking. It has a compact but spreading habit, small white flowers in spring and bitter-sweet fruit in August which are perfect for stewing. A popular, self-fertile cherry that is suitable for north facing situations and can tolerate heavy soil. Cherry 'Prunus avium Stella' - An exceptional self-fertile, sweet cherry with large dark red or black fruit. Cherry Earlise - This exceptionally early and delicious variety is usually ready to pick around the middle of June. The large fruits, with an average weight of 11gm, are held in bunches rather than singly. They are particulary sweet and juicy, and are borne on a semi-vigorous tree with an upright habit. Cherry Summer Sun - Here’s a superb new cherry bred by the John Innes Research Institute in England. In the breeding trial the tree was almost overlooked until it was noticed that it cropped very heavily, even in seasons when others failed. Summer Sun is particularly suited to gardens as the tree is compact and easily managed, the delicious cherries which ripen from red to almost black will be ready towards the end of July.
